TMS Therapy for Chronic Pain & Migraines

What Is TMS Therapy for Chronic Pain & Migraines?

TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) is a non-invasive therapy that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate brain regions involved in pain perception. It offers a safe, drug-free treatment option for individuals struggling with chronic pain or migraines that have not improved with medication.
TMS Therapy has been studied for its ability to relieve chronic pain, including fibromyalgia, neuropathic pain, and migraine symptoms. NeuroStar, one of the most advanced TMS devices, has been used in over 5.3 million treatments with an 83% response rate in depression care. Many patients with pain disorders report reduced intensity and frequency of symptoms following a full course of TMS sessions, as the treatment may help reset pain processing pathways in the brain.
TMS is well tolerated by most patients. Some experience mild discomfort or tapping sensations on the scalp during the first few treatments. This usually decreases with time. The procedure is non-sedative, does not affect memory, and allows you to stay fully awake and alert.
TMS Therapy is covered by most insurance plans, including Medicare and Tricare, for depression. For chronic pain or migraines, coverage may vary depending on your provider and diagnosis. Our staff will assist you with checking eligibility and submitting documentation for approval.

Non Invasive Procedure

The NeuroStar TMS device stimulates targeted brain areas using magnetic pulses. No surgery or anesthesia is required.

Resume Your Daily Activities with Ease

After each session, you can return to your normal schedule, including work or school, without restrictions.

Covered By Insurance

While widely covered for depression, some insurance providers may cover TMS for pain or migraines. We’ll help confirm your plan’s coverage.

What to Expect

Chronic pain and migraines often involve abnormal brain activity in areas that regulate pain signals. Before starting TMS, you’ll meet with our team to discuss your symptoms, medical history, and past treatments. Dr. Asad is one of very few Neurologists in Northeast Florida to be Board Certified in Brain Injury Medicine, bringing advanced expertise in diagnosing and managing neurological conditions that affect daily life. Your treatment plan will be tailored to your specific needs and goals.
Each session takes place in a quiet outpatient setting. You’ll sit comfortably while a magnetic coil delivers focused stimulation to targeted brain areas. Seven-week treatment length is recommended, but may vary based on your condition. You’ll stay fully awake and can drive yourself home after each visit.
There is no recovery time after TMS. Many patients begin to notice a gradual decrease in pain intensity or headache frequency over the course of treatment. Continued progress may occur even after the treatment cycle ends, and follow-up evaluations help track results and guide ongoing care.

Backed By Proven Research

TMS Therapy uses MRI-strength magnetic pulses to activate key brain regions involved in pain processing. These pulses may help rebalance disrupted neural activity, reducing pain sensitivity and improving overall comfort in patients living with chronic conditions.

Trusted By Professionals

Since 2008, NeuroStar TMS has gained the trust of providers and specialists nationwide. With growing insurance coverage and proven safety, it provides a valuable alternative for people seeking long-term relief from chronic pain or migraines without medication side effects.
